A peek at the week ahead

Winter Forecast Overview

Saved outlook updated .

Each city shows its highest weekday planning score in the saved outlook—not today’s snow or an official closure. Scores are planning signals, not measured closure probabilities.

What Snow Day Alerts does

Enter a ZIP code to see an estimate of snow-day disruption risk for the next five weekdays. The percentage is a planning signal based on forecast conditions that often lead to closures — especially overnight snow/ice and morning-commute conditions.

Using your forecast: timing, sources & limitations

How to interpret the percent

70% doesn’t mean “guaranteed closed.” It is a rules-based planning signal, not a measured probability for your district. Districts still vary based on plows, buses, staffing, and local road conditions.

  • When to check: the evening before and before leaving, following your district’s notification schedule.
  • Not official: always rely on your district’s alerts for final decisions.
  • More detail: see How It Works and FAQ.

What we look at (high level)

  • Overnight snow & ice: accumulation and freezing conditions before buses roll.
  • Timing: previous-day 6 PM–6 AM and target-day 6 AM–noon, in the forecast location’s time zone.
  • Wind & cold: strong gusts and dangerous cold can push delays/closures.

Data sources & limitations

  • Weather data: Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0), used to calculate our own planning signals.
  • ZIP lookup: Open-Meteo geocoding, with OpenStreetMap contributors via Nominatim as a fallback and for optional device-location lookup.
  • Forecasts can shift quickly; local roads, staffing, and policies can override weather.

Site status: We provide rules-based signals; no verified district accuracy rate is published. If you spot a weird result, hit Contact and tell us your ZIP + date. Content review: October 8, 2026. Weather-fetch times are shown separately in forecast explanations.
