Why this site exists
Snow Day Alerts was built for the same reason kids peek out the window at 5 AM:
curiosity and excitement. Parents want to plan ahead. Kids want to know
if they should charge the Chromebook or the sled. School leaders watch the radar and worry
about buses, sidewalks, and safety.
Instead of guessing, Snow Day Alerts pulls data from modern weather APIs and uses a
custom scoring system to estimate the chance of a closure for the next five school days.
It’s not official, but it’s fun, transparent, and built to be as useful as possible.
What Snow Day Alerts is (and isn’t)
- Is: A fun, family-friendly way to see snow-day odds in one place.
- Is: A tool that looks at overnight snow, ice, wind, and extreme cold
around the 4–5 AM decision window.
- Is not: An official school district forecast or guarantee.
- Is not: A replacement for your local district’s call, text, or email alerts.
Our goals
- Help families make better decisions about sleep, childcare, and work.
- Give kids a fun way to track winter storms without doomscrolling social media.
- Stay transparent about the fact that weather and school decisions can change quickly.
How we keep things kid-friendly
Snow Day Alerts is designed to be safe for families:
- Ads and content are screened to keep things as family-friendly as possible.
- No accounts or logins are required to use the main forecast tools.
- We focus on snow days, not news, politics, or anything unrelated to weather and school closures.
